Analytical potential-density pairs from complex-shifted Kuzmin-Toomre discs

چکیده
The complex-shift method is applied to the Kuzmin-Toomre family of discs to generate a family of non-axisymmetric flat distributions of matter. These are then superposed to construct non-axisymmetric flat rings. We also consider triaxial potential-density pairs obtained from these non-axisymmetric flat systems by means of suitable transformations. The use of the imaginary part of complex-shifted potentialdensity pairs is also discussed.

Analytical Potential-Density Pairs for Flat Rings and Toroidal Structures
The Kuzmin-Toomre family of discs is used to construct potentialdensity pairs that represent flat ring structures in terms of elementary functions. Systems composed of two concentric flat rings, a central disc surrounded by one ring and a ring with a centre of attraction are also presented. The circular velocity of test particles and the epicyclic frequency of small oscillations about circular ...
متن کاملAxisymmetric and triaxial MOND density-potential pairs
We present a simple method, based on the deformation of spherically symmetric potentials, to construct explicit axisymmetric and triaxial MOND densitypotential pairs. General guidelines to the choice of suitable deformations, so that the resulting density distribution is nowhere negative, are presented. This flexible method offers for the first time the possibility to study the MOND gravitation...
متن کاملNumerical linear stability analysis of round galactic disks
The method originally developed by Kalnajs for the numerical linear stability analysis of round galactic disks is implemented in the regimes of non-analytic transformations between position space and angle-action space, and of vanishing growth rates. This allows effectively any physically plausible disk to be studied, rather than only those having analytic transformations into angle-action spac...
متن کاملASP 2062 Introduction to Astrophysics Planet formation III — Daniel Price
1. The two main models for planet formation in discs are ‘core accretion’ and ‘gravitational instability’ 2. Gravitational instability requires massive discs that satisfy the Toomre criterion and a sufficiently fast cooling rate 3. Core accretion proceeds in stages from dust to planetesimals, to terrestrial planets and eventually gas giants. Several ‘growth barriers’ must be overcome. 4. Both m...
متن کاملOn Multipolar Analytical Potentials for Galaxies
We present analytical potential–density pairs in three dimensions for the gravitational field of galaxies, obtained by thickening the multipolar expansion up to the quadrupole term. These may be interpreted as generalizations of the Miyamoto and Nagai potential–density pairs. With a suitable restriction on the possible values of the multipole moments, the density distributions are positive and ...
